Search Engine FAQs
How online buyers search for
products and services? Did you know that the vast majority of online
sales originate from keyword searches in major search engines? Indeed, recent
studies published by industry analyst firms such as Jupiter MediaMetrix reveal
that more than 55% of all ecommerce transactions originate from a keyword
search. Other studies confirm that 85% of internet users primarily use
search engines when they look for products and services information on the
Web.
I already submitted my website to search engines.
Why do it again? The Web is a very dynamic environment. With the
phenomenal quantity of new content which makes its appearance every day on the
Internet, your company needs much more than a simple "Search engine submission"
to be noticed by your potential customers. In fact, the conventional indexing
(to add a Website to multiple directories) that has already been an effective
method of promotion, proves to be insufficient today and when results are given
they are short-term because new content is added daily to the network, pushing
you lower in the search results.
Can I submit mirror
site in search engines? Identical mirrors are sites with the same
content but accessible by two different URLs. Sometimes identical mirrors are
created to ease the load on the main site. Try to determine which of the
mirrors appears to be the original site, and list that one, if it is not
already listed. Then remove the remaining mirrors. REMEMBER all major search
engines are penalizing the mirror sites as well as main site. Determination of the original site is not always obvious. Sometimes
the URL is listed on the site itself, sometimes it is evident from the URL. In
some cases, the original site will automatically redirect to a mirror.
